Gosford Preview By Gary Harley

Thursday 23rd February 2012

Successful Taree trainer Bindi Cheers heads down the Pacific Highway on Thursday with proven wet tracker Zippy Zariz and the 3 year old has bright prospects in the final event at the Gosford race meeting. Top female rider Kathy O’Hara will ride Zippy Zariz which has returned to racing in good form after a short spell.

He was an early first up winner on a heavy track at Grafton on 4 February and he followed with a narrow win at Taree on 7th February. A week ago O’Hara rode Zippy Zariz on a slow track at Hawkesbury and he came from well back to go down narrowly.

Kim Waugh’s Rock and Roll with Corey Brown aboard will be hardest to beat for Zippy Zariz and should run well in her third run back from a spell. Rock and Roll has been placed on a heavy track. Kastelos is another in this race which has sound heavy track form.

The third race is chockful of interest. Choisir filly Choice Words will carry the number one saddle cloth but she is extremely well weighted under the set weight conditions. She has only had three starts and her best performance to date was in the listed Reginald Allen Stakes at Rosehill in September.

Choice Words was beaten a neck by Peter Snowden’s Disputes and she was beaten a neck on debut at Canterbury. She hasn’t raced since October but she has trialled well on a heavy track. Choice Words won’t have it her own way as this appears a ‘hot’ maiden. Warwick Farm pair Tigresa Rosa and Cradle Me both barrier trialled well recently on heavy ground.

Kathy O’Hara also has bright prospects aboard Blackett Street in the 2100 Benchmark 70, which is Race 2. O’Hara rode the Gosford trained 5 year old when he bolted on a slow track here on 25 January. Blackett Street then finished second on a heavy track at Canterbury on 3 February.
