Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup
The sun was shining on Gosford Racecourse on Wednesday 18 November 2009 for the first spring running of the $150,000 Listed Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup.
The decision to move the Cup to the spring was vindicated when a quality field lined up in the big race, taken out by the Peter Snowden trained Spinney which was ridden perfectly by former local apprentice Josh Parr.
“This year was all about getting established in the new time slot and we couldn’t be happier,” stated Gosford Race Club Chief Executive James Heddo.
“Our raceday luncheon packages were all sold out well in advance of Cup Day, and we will be looking at erecting some infield marquees next year and targeting local businesses to have their end of year functions on Cup Day in 2010.”
A huge increase in off course turnover was also a great result for the Club and the entire Racing Industry.
“Our last two completed Cup Days have been run on Easter Sunday in 2006 and 2008, and have held about $1.9 million in off course TAB turnover,” stated Heddo. “Wednesdays Cup Day TAB turnover figure of over $2.6 million is very pleasing and tells us we are heading in the right direction.”
The Gosford Quarries Gosford Gold Cup will be scheduled in November 2010 with the exact final date to be confirmed by March 2010.
